Infinity Machine Shutdown

Awakening the Angel System: Apocalypse: A LitRPG Progression Fantasy

Infinity Machine Shutdown is the turning point that converts a supernatural war into the uncertain aftermath of a post-magic world. Activated during Jack’s final confrontation with Michael inside the Infinity Machine, the shutdown interrupts Adam’s reformation, removes Jack and Michael from existence, and reboots the world. Its immediate result is not a conventional victory but a vast dislocation: mana vanishes, systems fail, corruptive smog clears, the flying city falls into the sea, and revived or displaced populations awaken without understanding what has happened.

Causes and Background

The shutdown occurs while Michael is trying to outlast Jack and Sahaqiel by relying on Adam’s regenerative return. A mass of flesh growing from a vein of the Infinity Machine has begun to develop ligaments and bones, and Michael insists that Adam will return no matter how many times he is dispelled. He also argues that Jack’s earlier use of the friendship-based tactic has removed another body from the fight, presenting the battle as a contest of dwindling resources and approaching inevitability.

The balance changes when Lilith tells Jack that the time has come. Jack answers Michael’s claim that he and Sahaqiel are still insufficient by pointing to the metallic sphere behind them, which pulses as though it were an active participant in the battle rather than inert machinery. The white room then flashes black, while the tree-like roots of the Infinity Machine throb under an intense pressure. Michael’s immediate question about what has been done marks the moment when the machine’s latent force becomes visible as an intervention in the conflict.

Activation and Confrontation

Lilith reveals herself to Michael as the being responsible for her creation, greeting him as her father and asking whether he missed her. Gold Gehenna tattoos cover her body, and Michael recognizes that she has been the blind spot he failed to account for. His realization reframes the shutdown: the machine’s decisive action is made possible not simply by Jack’s combat ability, but by the concealed presence and intervention of Lilith within the larger structure of the conflict.

The white room fluctuates, and the mass of flesh suddenly deflates as a shock of energy passes through Jack and Michael. Michael recognizes the sensation as the call of infinity, the same feeling he experienced forty thousand years earlier when the kill switch was activated. That recurrence connects the present shutdown to an older technological or cosmic catastrophe and shows that the event is not merely a new attack. It is the reactivation of a force whose previous use already belonged to deep history.

Michael interprets Jack’s choice as a betrayal of humanity’s supposed future. He accuses Jack of wasting immense power, undoing past progress, setting humanity back, and abandoning the role of ultimate weapon that had been intended to stop Adam. His anger exposes the ideological stakes of the shutdown: Michael values power as an instrument for preserving a grand human project, while Jack chooses to end the immediate cycle even at the cost of that power and the world order built upon it.

Michael continues attacking despite the destabilization. He sends a chaotic wave of flames toward Jack, but Jack cuts through it with Gram. When Michael declares that the shutdown has only temporarily halted Armageddon, Jack answers that the consequences are no longer Michael’s problem as his wings glitter away. Michael then vanishes and reappears beside him with his sword, while Jack remains motionless, eyes closed and smiling, as the edge of Michael’s Dandelga approaches his neck. The scene suspends the expected logic of a final duel: Jack does not answer the apparent deathblow with another visible strike, because the shutdown is already operating on a scale beyond ordinary combat.

World Reboot and Immediate Effects

The two archangels are suddenly ripped from existence as the world reboots. Their disappearance is therefore simultaneous with the machine’s decisive transition: the shutdown does not merely disable a weapon or end a battle in one room, but resets the conditions under which the conflict has been taking place. Jack and Michael vanish together, leaving the outcome deliberately distinct from a simple individual victory.

The reboot is experienced across separated locations. Tenno wakes with a start as an unfamiliar energy sweeps across his skin. The demonspawn hordes have disappeared, and Kenichi sits beside him drinking a beer. Tenno discovers that the strength formerly available to him has gone, while Kenichi finds that his system will not respond. Neither can establish whether the battle has been won through the mechanisms they once relied upon; Kenichi can only say that he thinks so. Tenno also cannot feel energy in the air or mana flowing through his veins, then treats the strange condition with subdued curiosity before returning to sleep.

Selfia experiences the same rupture in another form. Her floating limbs fall onto the sandy beach where she has been deposited, and she cannot feel her mana. Ada is likewise weakened: she cannot lift her nodachi from the sand and asks why she feels so powerless. Selfia identifies the cause as Jack’s activation of the kill switch, giving the event its clearest in-world explanation. The flying city visible in the distance then crashes into the sea, making the shutdown’s physical consequences as unmistakable as its metaphysical ones.

Aftermath and New Conditions

The shutdown removes the corruptive purple smog from the landscape. In its place is a horizon crowded with thousands of confused people, including men and women wearing outdated uniforms and armor. Some faces are recognizable to Selfia and others are not, suggesting that the reboot has altered not only the immediate battlefield but also the population present in the world. The appearance of these people turns the shutdown into a social and administrative crisis: the past has been materially returned to the present without an accompanying explanation or infrastructure.

The event also makes familiar tools suddenly strange. Ada’s nodachi remains fixed in the sand because she no longer possesses the strength to move it. Kenichi and Tenno cannot access their systems, and Selfia’s body is reduced to scattered limbs that require Mi’shka’s help to reinstall. These details give the loss of magic and supernatural systems a concrete, bodily form. Powers that once operated transparently now appear as absent capacities, while weapons and bodies become visible as burdens requiring effort, repair, or assistance.

Selfia’s first practical response is to anticipate an enormous amount of paperwork and ask Mi’shka to help install her limbs. The remark places bureaucratic labor beside the collapse of cosmic machinery, refusing to end the event at the level of apocalypse alone. The world has survived, but survival immediately produces governance, identification, resettlement, repair, and explanation as urgent problems.

Narrative Significance

Infinity Machine Shutdown reverses the value structure of the final battle. Michael treats the preservation of accumulated power and humanity’s planned weapon as the highest good; Jack accepts the destruction or loss of that order to prevent the immediate continuation of Adam’s return and Michael’s control. The shutdown therefore produces victory and deprivation at the same time. It halts the re-forming flesh, but it also removes mana, disables systems, strips strength from former combatants, and leaves the world uncertain about whether it has truly won.

The event’s most important consequence is the creation of a post-shutdown world rather than the restoration of an old one. The demonspawn hordes are gone, the purple smog has cleared, and the archangels have vanished, yet the surviving characters cannot simply resume their previous lives. The reboot replaces an intelligible supernatural battlefield with confused crowds, fallen cities, powerless bodies, unusable systems, and a queen already calculating the paperwork required to manage the result. In that contrast, the shutdown functions as both an ending to the Infinity Machine’s active order and the opening condition for a radically unfamiliar future.
